During Vice President Joe Biden’s Google+ chat today, he suggested that citizens looking for a weapon for self defense should buy a shotgun instead of an “assault rifle.”

“Guess what, a shotgun will keep you a lot safer, a double barreled shotgun, not an assault weapon in somebody’s hands that doesn’t know how to use it, even one that doesn’t know how to use it,” Biden declared. “You know. It’s harder to use an assault weapon and hit something than it is a shotgun, OK?”

Biden continued emphatically, “If you want to keep people away in an earthquake, buy some shotgun shells.”

The White House hosted a "fireside chat" with the Vice President today to talk about gun control.
