@JoeBiden is back.

The vice president revived his political Twitter account Monday with an upbeat message about this year's midterm election cycle, marking the first tweet from the account in 437 days.

"Dusting off the Twitter handle for a big midterm election year. Let's get to it, folks!" Biden tweeted.

Biden has maintained a robust presence on the social media site through his vice presidential account, @VP, but his return to his non-government Twitter handle signals a strategy by Biden and the Democratic National Committee to increase his political profile during the next few months.

“@JoeBiden will be another way for the Vice President to engage our supporters, spread the Democratic message and support our candidates heading into the midterm elections,” a DNC spokesperson told Time Magazine.

The account, which boasts nearly 550,000 followers as of Monday morning, will likely be a powerful tool for communications and outreach on behalf of Democratic Senate candidates, who face a treacherous electoral landscape this year.

Notably, it could also remind some Democrats of Biden's own political ambitions, as he weighs whether to run for president in 2016.
