CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Bobcats owner Michael Jordan and FOX Sports Carolinas/SportSouth together have donated $200,000 in sponsorship money to Y Achievers, a YMCA of Greater Charlotte program that operates in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

The former NBA star presented the check during a visit to three Charlotte area high schools.

Jordan and Fox FOX Sports Carolinas/SportSouth senior vice president and general manager Jeff Genthner also handed out $5,000 scholarships to one student from each school to help fund educational goals after high school.

Jordan told the students "I'm from North Carolina and I've seen the warmth within our communities, I grew up in it, so I feel obligated to give back to it."

Y Achievers is a national YMCA program designed to help teens set and pursue high educational and career goals.
