We hear that singer and "Sparkle" star Jordin Sparks will be performing at this year's Susan G. Komen Honoring the Promise Gala. The gala, now in its third year, will be held at the Kennedy Center on Sept. 28, and usually attracts a slew of big names. In year's past, Jennifer Beals, Kerry Washington, Donald Faison, Natasha Bedingfield, Tory Burch, Olivia Newton-John and Cynthia Nixon have all played a part. Sparks will be coming off promoting her movie "Sparkle," filmed with the late Whitney Houston and opening in theaters Aug. 17. She's been affiliated with the breast cancer charity for several years, serving as an honorary co-chair for the Race for the Cure in Phoenix, Ariz., and participating in Groove for the Cure, a partner event featuring zumba.

Sparks has previously coming to Washington to lend her fame to a very different kind of pet project. She's partnered with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and the National Transportation Safety Board to discourage folks from texting while driving.
