Democrat Tim Kaine continues to top Republican George Allen in the money race in one of the nation's most closely watched Senate contests.
Kaine announced Thursday his campaign brought in $4.5 million between July 1 and Sept. 30, about a $1 million more than the $3.47 million Allen reported. Since the start of the race, Kaine has raised nearly $15 million in campaign cash, compared to Allen's $11.5 million.
After a recent $3 million ad buy, Kaine's campaign war chest has just $1 million left to get him through the campaign's final month, though he has already purchased $7.5 million in TV, radio and Internet advertising. Allen still has $2.5 million in the bank and has reserved $5 million in airtime for the fall.
