George Washington has lost guard Bryan Bynes for the rest of the season with a tibial plateau fracture, the school announced on Friday. Bynes, a senior, was hurt in Wednesday’s 68-60 win over Fordham. An MRI confirmed the injury on Thursday.

In 20.2 minutes per game, Bynes was averaging 4.0 points and 2.0 assists. In 11 Atlantic-10 games, Bynes had avaerged 5.5 points, 2.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.0 turnovers per game, playing a valuable role as a backup to point guard Joe McDonald and playing alongside the freshman when the situation dictated.

“This is really an unfortunate situation for Bryan, and is not the way our coaches and teammates wanted his senior season to end,” coach Mike Lonergan said in a statement. “Bryan had really stepped up his contributions in Atlantic-10 play, and now we’re going to need other players to step up in his place to help us reach our goal of playing in the A-10 championship next month in Brooklyn.”

The Colonials will reach the A-10 tournament if they finish among the top 12 in the 16-team league. GW (12-12, 6-5) is tied for sewenth place, two games clear of 13th-place Dayton (14-11, 4-7).
