Kidnapping Threats Made Against Olympic Athletes

The Austrian Olympic Committee has received an anonymous letter containing a kidnap threat against Alpine skier Bernadette Schild and skeleton pilot Janine Flock during the Sochi Games. (Feb. 4)

BUT FOR SOME ATHLETES ON THE AUSTRIAN TEAM.. A TERRIFYING DISTRACTION.

ON MONDAY.. OFFICIALS ON THE AUSTRIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE SAID SOMEONE MADE THREATS TO KIDNAP TWO OF ITS ATHLETES --

THE LETTER.. WRITTEN IN GERMAN.. DELIVERED TO THE MAILBOX OF THE OLYMPIC OFFICE IN VIENNA.

"It's no actual threat at the moment." (...) "We have two security people here and if the threat is confirmed as actual we will give additional security to the athletes."

THIS LATEST THREAT COMES LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AFTER A *STRING* OF EUROPEAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEES -- INCLUDING AUSTRIA'S -- RECEIVED EMAILS THREATENING OLYMPIC ATHLETES IN SOCHI.

THOSE MESSAGES.. LATER DEEMED A HOAX BY SECURITY EXPERTS.

OFFICIALS SAY ONE OF THE TWO NAMED IN THE KIDNAPPING THREAT HAS ALREADY ARRIVED IN SOCHI.
