A U.S. citizen who has been protesting in Ukraine says that he was brutally beaten by police during clashes the day before. Tuesday's deadly violence was the worst seen in nearly three months of anti-government protests. (Feb. 19)

HOSPITALS IN KIEV ARE TREATING SCORES OF INJURED PROTESTERS...INCLUDING A U-S CITIZEN...AFTER DEADLY CLASHES ON TUESDAY KILLED DOZENS AND INJURED HUNDREDS...THE WORST VIOLENCE SEEN IN NEARLY THREE MONTHS.

HE SAYS HE WAS BEATEN NEAR THE SITE OF THE MAIN PROTEST CAMP.

"I just got clubbed all over: on the head, broke my arm in two places. Finally I fell on the ground, and the rule, is you can't hit a guy on the ground, you're not supposed to, it's against the rule of something or other, maybe even the United Nations. And they just kept hitting me and hitting me."

SAYEVICH...WHO IS OF UKRAINIAN DESCENT...HAD BEEN WORKING WITH A GROUP OF ACTIVISTS KNOWN AS THE UKRAINIAN SELF DEFENSE TEAM WHEN HE WAS ATTACKED.

"I went to the Mariinsky park, and there was supposed to be some kind of very big action with people trying to get to the parliament building. And we were supposed to help them get there."

DOCTORS SAY THEY ARE PRIMARILY TREATING INJURIES CAUSED BY SHRAPNEL, FIREARMS, AND RUBBER BULLETS.
