The Labor Department reported that U.S. consumer prices rose 0.5% in February, fueled by higher gasoline costs. Economists had expected a rise of 0.5% overall.Core prices, excluding the volatile food and energy categories, rose 0.2%, ahead of consensus estimates of 0.1%.Consumer prices have risen an unadjusted 2.1% over the last 12 months, and 1.1% on a core basis.
