DETROIT (AP) — U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is expected to discuss regional transit and a proposed passenger rail system in Detroit during a meeting including area officials.

The office of Gov. Rick Snyder says the governor plans to meet with LaHood, Detroit Mayor Bing and others on Monday afternoon.

In June, LaHood said the proposed light rail passenger system running from downtown Detroit to the city's New Center area won't get a $25 million grant that supporters were seeking. But LaHood said at the time that the project remains in the running for equal funding from other programs.

The 3.3-mile rail line project is expected to cost $137 million.
