The 'why' behind Boston bombing

Re: "Did U.S.-Russia deal in May 2011 lead to Boston bombing?" April 22

I was disappointed in your April 22 editorial suggesting that Chechen terrorists decided to target the U.S. co-equally with the Russians in 2011, as a result of the U.S. agreement to list Chechen terrorist Doku Umarov as a "specially designated global terrorist."

First, I am tired of the media blaming murderous actions of Islamist terrorists on something "we" (the United States) did. Second, your argument makes no sense.

The designation of Umarov as a global terrorist didn't come out of thin air. It was based on his own statements. Your editorial notes that back in October 2007, Umarov declared the U.S., Britain and Israel to be "enemies of Muslims everywhere."

How can you conclude that "we" turned Chechen terrorists into enemies of the U.S. in 2011 because we put their leader on a list, when that leader had been preaching hatred of the U.S. for at least four years?

Facts on FairTax

The FairTax Plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.

This nonpartisan legislation (H.R. 25/S122) abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax -- administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.

The IRS is disbanded and defunded. The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

Illegal immigration reform

Regardless of what Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano says, our borders are not secure! This must happen before any other action can be taken.

The only way to automatically achieve U.S. citizenship is to be born here. Otherwise, citizenship must be earned through the proper channels that already exist.

The Obama administration is attempting to bypass our Constitution (surprise, surprise) by enacting an "immigration reform bill" that basically gives illegal aliens a free pass to citizenship. This is so wrong and is only a political ploy to gain more Democratic votes for the progressive Left.

Any GOP senator or congressman who "caves" on this bill needs to go! I wonder what other immigrants feel about this who achieved citizenship the right way? If you know one who has, ask them, I bet they will be glad to tell you.
