BOHEMIA, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a Long Island man burglarized a trailer park home while assaulting the resident and extorting money from the victim's father.

Authorities say the 27-year-old man was arrested Saturday in front of his home in the Suffolk County hamlet of Brentwood, just hours after police say he entered the trailer home in Bohemia.

Officials say the suspect used a mallet to strike a man who was asleep there, then phoned the man's father to demand cash while threatening to further harm him.

The father brought the money to the man's home, where he was arrested just after midnight Saturday.

The victim was hospitalized after his mother arrived and helped him.
