Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA) is the latest House Democrat to call on President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, as the his age and mental acuity have come under intense scrutiny following his disastrous debate last month.
Levin said he was “naturally concerned” with Biden’s debate performance and added that the president should “pass the torch” by not seeking a second term.
“First, let me say that President Biden has been an outstanding leader, not only of our nation, but of the entire free world. Making this statement is not easy. I have deep respect for President Biden’s five plus decades of public service and incredible appreciation for the work we’ve done together these last three and a half years,” Levin said in a statement. “But I believe the time has come for President Biden to pass the torch.”
The Southern California Democrat, who represents a battleground House district, becomes the latest to call on Biden to step aside since the president’s press conference Thursday. Biden has resisted calls to step aside from the nearly two dozen House Democrats who have publicly told him to do so.
