BRINGING BING
We welcome Irving Berlin's classic 1954 American musical film "White Christmas" to the Kennedy Center (2700 F St. NW) this month, and although Bing Crosby will not be crooning the film's hits such as "Blue Skies" and the title hit song "White Christmas," that's OK because the production stars some of the biggest talents on Broadway including James Clow as Crosby's character Bob Wallace and David Elder as his show biz buddy Phil Davis.
If you've never seen this Christmas classic, then here's the inside scoop -- two World War II buddies put on a show at a beautiful inn in Vermont and manage to find their soul mates in the process. INNOVATOR PORTRAIT
Contemporary American artist and notorious innovator Lincoln Schatz has done it again. He's created another out-of-the-box art piece, or as he likes to say "generative portrait" called "The Network" that portrays American leadership. The piece is a single-screen video that combines Schatz's 89 interviews of current American leaders spanning across the field of politicians, scientists, innovators and scholars. Expect to see subjects such as Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Emmy Award-winning journalist Cokie Roberts, and even Vint Cerf, an American computer scientist known as the father of the Internet.
His work debuts Tuesday on the third floor of the Portrait Gallery (Eighth and F streets NW), and starting at 6 p.m. Schatz will be on hand to sign copies of his most recent book. This event is free.
