Pie for SOME
Ripple's gourmet market Sugar Magnolia (3417 Connecticut Ave. NW) is feeding more than just their sweet-toothed guests this Christmas season. For every pie they sell, the Cleveland Park-based bakery is donating 50 percent of their proceeds to the nonprofit organization So Others Might Eat. Sugar Magnolia's hand-crafted pies are perfect for any Christmas party of family gathering, and they include flavors such as bourbon caramel pecan and pumpkin spice with apple. Not a pie person? They also offer white chocolate peppermint cheesecakes and buches de Noel. If you have a free afternoon, stop by for lunch for any of their gourmet sandwiches and top it off with a dessert.
SOME is a D.C.-based charity that provides meals to the homeless every single day.
Top executive chef Miles Vaden is flexing his culinary muscles at the newly renovated bistro Nage (1600 Rhode Island Ave. NW), and he's launched WTF Chef Tastings to prove it. Vaden, who is known for his innovative take on typical American dishes, will be serving up a series of special tasting menus every Wednesday through Friday. Choose from either a three-course tasting at $40 or a four-course tasting at $45. You can also add a wine pairing for just $15 more.
Vaden has cooked alongside some of the best including Jean-Georges Vongerichten at Vong in Chicago and Fabio Trabocchi's Fiola here in D.C.
He has completely revamped Nage's menus, and his fresh new dishes align with the restaurant's modern renovations. Expect to see a new "wood" tile floor, a redesigned bar and even a refurbished barn wood wall that contains real moss.
