D.C. Attorney General Peter Nickles said his office has turned over 1,500 pages of city Peaceoholics contracts related to an audit of the nonprofit group requested by Ward 7 Councilwoman Yvette Alexander.
Alexander called for the audit after reports in The Washington Examiner raised questions about the Fenty administration’s oversight of Peaceoholics,a nonprofit group set up to fight gang activity in the District. Since 2006, Fenty has funneled more than $10 million in contracts and loans to Peaceoholics, which was founded by one his most outspoken supporters, Ron Moten.
Alexander requested the audit late last month and asked D.C. Auditor Deborah Nichols to provide a preliminary response by Sept. 3. Nickles said on Wednesday that he stepped into the process because District regulations allow his office to review potentially confidential information before it’s released to council members.
On Sept. 2, he released 1,000 pages to Alexander’s office and another 500 pages were released Wednesday, Nickles said.
