District taxpayers paid about $5,000 so the city's new director of employment services could stay at the W Hotel for four weeks, a spokesman for At-large D.C. Councilman Michael Brown said.

Brown's committee has oversight over the employment services department, which is now headed by Rochelle Webb.  Brown's spokesman David Meadows said Webb spent four weeks at the hotel at a "reduced room rate" of $182 a night. He said it was part of her relocation package.

The Washington City Paper reported Tuesday that Webb had a personal driver for the first two months as director. Documents show she stopped having the driver pick her up from home (i.e. the hotel) and drive her to work after Ward 6 Councilman Tommy Wells office inquired about the chauffeur.
