Two Metrobuses collided Monday afternoon in Southeast D.C., prompting the city’s mass casualty response to kick into action.

No one had life-threatening injuries, according to Metro, but the size of the accident prompted D.C. Fire & EMS officials to call for their mass casualty units.

The initial reports to Metro listed nine riders with injuries, spokeswoman Cathy Asato said.

A U2 bus rear-ended a Route 90 bus on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and W Street Southeast around 2:45 p.m., according to Metro.

Both bus operators have been taken out of service to be tested for drugs and alcohol, she said, which is standard after any accident.
