An Occupier in the McPherson Square camp has taken at least $5,500 from an Occupy credit union account, Occupiers said this week.
Occupy DC used the account to deposit money from donors. The man, who goes by his Twitter handle, @papersplx, and the nickname "JT," said on Twitter that there was about $20,000 in the account when he withdrew the funds.
The man was listed as one of the account holders, and Occupiers said they don't plan on calling the police over the incident.
The man wrote on Twitter that the money had been "well-spent around camp" and has been vigorously defending himself online. But Occupiers say they consider his withdrawl a theft, and that they hadn't seen the man since the funds were withdrawn.
Occupiers say they're not concerned about money – they're confident that donors will help replenish the account – but they said they feel they've been taken advantage of.
"JT" did not respond to a request for an interview.
