Two protesters at Occupy DC's McPherson Square campsite were arrested Thursday and charged with assaulting a police officer.
A U.S. Park Police spokesman said the officers arrived at McPherson around 2:30 p.m. after receiving a report about a man assaulting a woman. Police found several people in the park who they said were drunk and disorderly.
One man was arrested, bystanders said, after he refused to cooperate with police and began yelling at them. He went limp and refused to move as officers attempted to get him into a police van. At some point, officers used a Tazer on the man, police said.
The man later kicked a police officer in the groin and shattered a window of a police car, police said. He has been charged with disorderly conduct, destruction of government property and assaulting a police officer, police said.
A second man was arrested after he rushed at police who were arresting the first man. He was charged with disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer, police said.
