More than three weeks ago, Rep. Darrell Issa asked the Department of the Interior and the White House to turn over all communications between the National Parks Service and the White House regarding the Occupy DC protesters.
The department's deadline was supposed to be Tuesday. But an Issa spokesman said Interior representatives told Issa's office Tuesday morning that it needs until the end of the week to provide a response.
Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform committee, wrote Interior Secretary Ken Salazar requesting the correspondence and questioning whether the Obama administration had allowed Occupiers to stay in McPherson Square for political purposes.
Issa told Salazar that the Occupy DC encampment at McPherson Square "appears to violate the law" and damaged the newly refurbished park. He questioned why the National Parks Service hasn't removed Occupiers from the square.
