The Washington Nationals are quickly moving toward completion of a youth baseball complex in Ward 7, the team’s general manager said Thursday.

“We’re looking for a ribbon cutting ceremony in the very, very near future,” Mike Rizzo said during an appearance at Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District’s annual meeting, held near Nationals Park. “It’s well underway, we’ve got everything in place [and] we’ve got a few tweaks to make.”

Rizzo predicted that the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, which will include three baseball fields and indoor training facilities, will have an enduring impact on the area surrounding Fort Dupont Park.

“It’s going to be so gratifying when we cut that ribbon,” Rizzo said. “This thing is going to be with us and a real force in this neighborhood for a very long time to come.”

The team broke ground on the $15 million complex in May 2011. The District agreed to pay more than $10 million of the construction costs.
