D.C. police have released a photo of the towel that was found with the infant who died after she was abandoned in the freezing cold outside a home in Northeast Washington.

Investigators are looking for the person or persons responsible for leaving the baby behind, and they are hoping that someone will recognize the towel and come forward with information about the owner.

This towel was found with the baby who died after she was abandoned in freezing temperatures in Jan. 14, 2012. Police are looking for the person responsible for the girl's death.

The cause and manner of the child's death remains under investigation.

Neighbors found the baby naked and covered in the striped towel shortly after midnight on Jan. 15, on a steps of a home in the 3000 block of Channing Street NE. She was taken to a hospital, where she died two hours later.
