On this day, Jan. 4, in 1964, the “Boston Strangler” killed his last victim and left a “Happy New Year” card at her feet. In the 1950s, Albert DeSalvo pretended to be a modeling agency scout and told women that he needed to take their measurements, then fondled them. He was dubbed the “Measuring Man” and spent a year in prison. DeSalvo then began breaking into apartments, tying up and raping women. He wore green handyman clothes and became known as the “Green Man.”
In 1962, DeSalvo started killing. He was arrested two years later after he tied up a woman, then suddenly apologized and left.
He confessed to 12 murders but was never charged, instead getting a life sentence for the Green Man rapes.
DeSalvo was fatally stabbed by an inmate in 1973.
