Two cars crash into Bethesda storefrontsTwo cars flew through glass storefronts in a Bethesda strip mall late Saturday morning when one driver rear-ended a parked car.

The driver’s car smashed into a hair salon, while the parked car careened into a dry cleaners on the 6900 block of Arlington Road. The driver was transported to Suburban Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are blaming “driver error,” such as stepping on the gas pedal instead of the brake, for the collision, which called a dozen firefighters to the scene at 10:03 a.m. Alcohol is not suspected, and no charges have been filed.

Armed CVS robber at large

Prince George’s police are searching for an armed man who robbed a CVS on Saturday morning.

Just before 9 a.m., an adult male entered the drug store on the 7500 block of Crane Highway and used a handgun to force an employee to give him cash from the register.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Reedy described the robber as black, slim and 6 feet tall, sporting close-cropped facial hair, and wearing blue pants, a hooded sweatshirt, a hat and sunglasses.

Only employees were in the store at the time, Reedy said.

Reedy said police are unsure if he was traveling on foot or by vehicle, and that Prince George’s police will cooperate with District police “so we can all keep an eye out.”

Montgomery town house up in smoke

A two-story home on the 20300 block of Greenriver Terrace in Germantown was ablaze Saturday morning.

Emergency fire rescue teams were dispatched at about 9:45 a.m. to the town house, where they found “smoke pouring out of the second floor,” a fire department spokesman said.

Meanwhile, a neighbor told police dispatch that an occupant was asleep in the home’s basement.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, which originated in the basement near the utility closet, but found no occupants: The home’s two adults and two children were at church.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
