After withholding its presidential endorsement until a few weeks before the election, the Log Cabin Republicans finally cast their vote for Mitt Romney -- not because he's a great advocate for gay rights, but because he's not Rick Santorum.

In an email Tuesday morning, LCR executive director R. Clarke Cooper wrote that Romney "will move the ball forward compared to past Republican presidents." A second, equally lukewarm email went out shortly after, saying that the LCR "will continue to voice our disagreement with any call for a constitutional amendment federalizing a definition of marriage that excludes LGBT families." The note acknowledged that for voters who make LGBT issues a top priority, "Romney may not be that voter's choice."

And for voters on the fence, the LCR adds: "Mitt Romney is not Rick Santorum, and Paul Ryan is not Michele Bachmann. Otherwise, our decision would have been different."
