Here are some of our top stories from the year ... in no particular order.
A royal pregnancy
Even with two royal nudity scandals, the year still belongs to the news that Kate Middleton and Prince William are expecting a tiny new royal in 2013.
The pair were forced to reveal the pregnancy when Kate was hospitalized for severe morning sickness.
Whitney found dead the day before the Grammys
Hours before Whitney Houston was scheduled to perform at Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party, the Queen of Pop was found dead.
The singer was found in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton Hotel room on Feb. 11. She was 48.
Her death was ruled an accidental drowning along with "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use."
Whitney's musical achievements had been overshadowed for years by her drug addiction, stints in rehab and her relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown. But during the 2012 Grammys, she was remembered for her big heart and even bigger voice.
Jen gets engaged
Jennifer Aniston has gotten a bum rap for being a sad, single, childless woman the past several years. But Jen emerged happy and confident in 2012 with her handsome beau, Justin Theroux.
And Jen didn't let Brad Pitt and Agelina Jolie's engagement ruin her good mood.
In August, Jen confirmed that she and Justin were also planning to walk down the aisle.
If you're taking bets on who will say "I do" first, our money is on Jen and Justin.
Kristen cheats on Rob
We know, we know, you've heard it a million times -- Kristen Stewart cheated on Robert Pattinson. But that doesn't mean it isn't a huge story.
The bigger story in 2013 might be what will happen when KStew starts filming the sequel to "Snow White and the Huntsman." Stay tuned ...
Let's do the singing competition show judge shuffle!
2012 seemed to be the year for top-paid, big-name singing competition reality show judges.
"The X Factor" signed pop princess Britney Spears for a reported $15 million and brought Demi Lovato in for a bit of youth.
"America Idol" signed Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and the ultimate pop star, Mariah Carey, to its judges table.
And just to add more big names, "X" inked deals with Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez to co-host the show.
Miley engaged at 19
In June, singer/actress Miley Cyrus, 19, announced her engagement to Aussie actor and "Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth, 22.
The pair had been dating for three years and met on the set of the Nicholas Sparks flick "The Last Song."
Miley's folks were said to be thrilled with their teenage daughter's engagement.
Tom and Katie's quickie divorce
Katie Holmes filed for divorce at the end of June, and we bet Tom Cruise wasn't jumping on any couches this time.
The pair married in 2006 and are parents to daughter Suri. This divorce is Katie's first and Tom's third.
What was most interesting about this breakup was the speed with which the divorce was finalized.
Less than two weeks after the initial filing, the divorce was settled. Details were scarce, but sources said at the time that Suri would live with Katie full-time in New York and that Tom would have generous visitation rights.
Secret celeb weddings
While many couples wed this year, two that caught our attention were Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, and Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel.
Ryan and Blake hadn't been together for very long when they snuck away to South Carolina for a September wedding. Martha Stewart's team helped put the event on, and Florence Welch sang at the ceremony.
In October, longtime couple Justin and Jessica snuck off to Italy to get married. JT sang and played guitar while his bride walked down the aisle, and their guests were treated to a weeklong party in Italy.
More surprising: Ryan and Blake. More lavish: JT and Jess. Classiest: Have to give that one to Ryan and Blake -- Martha was involved, after all! Best couple: It's a draw.
Honorable mention: Brooke heads to rehab for the 19th time
While it's definitely not a top story of the year, you have to be shocked by the stats. According to TMZ, Charlie Sheen's ex-wife and the mother of his two young sons, Brooke Mueller, entered rehab for the 19th time in December.
After what appeared to be an overdose (her camp has denied that), Brooke was rushed to the hospital and a few days later, checked herself in to rehab for an Adderall addiction.
But Brooke wasn't in for the long haul. She checked out just six days later.
