UPDATE, 8 A.M. Monday: The deceased has been identified as a student at Park View High School in Sterling, officials said. The juvenile's name has not been released yet because it has not yet been confirmed by the medical examiner's office.

A Loudoun County homeowner shot and killed an intruder early Sunday morning, police said.

The resident, who lived on the 45900 block of Pullman Court in Sterling, Va., reported that there was an unknown male in the house at 2:30 a.m., according to police. The homeowner then fatally shot the intruder.

It was not yet clear whether the intruder was armed or had threatened anyone in the house.
