Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, explained that he is very concerned about the National Security Agency and its ability to spy and keep records, even on American citizens.

"We've got a lot of cleaning up to do," he said, referring to George Orwell's science fiction book 1984.

"It looks like that the only thing George Orwell was wrong about was the year — he missed it by 30," he said during a press conference on Wednesday. "It was 2014 the book should have been titled instead of 1984."

Gohmert said intelligence agencies had done things that violated Americans' privacy rights and had "too much power."
