NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Loyola University in New Orleans has named a new dean for its College of Humanities and Natural Sciences.

Maria Calzada is a mathematics professor and scholar who joined Loyola's faculty in 1991. Loyola said in a news release that Calzada has served as the interim dean for the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences since fall 2012. She will officially begin her new post in July.

In 2004, she was appointed as the arts and science intern for the "First Year Experience" in the dean's office, where she led faculty development activities and organized events for first-year students.
