BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) — Students from more than a dozen Maine high schools are competing in a science state fair that will determine which teams move to the next level in Phoenix.

More than 200 high school students, including some who are home-schooled, are in Bar Harbor on Saturday to attend the Maine State Science Fair at the Jackson Laboratory.

Jackson Lab took over coordination of the Maine State Science Fair in 2010, and revised the rules to conform to international standards so the winning students could qualify for the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair, the world's largest science fair.

The top three winners of the 2013 Maine Fair and their mentors will travel to Phoenix in May for this year's INTEL event.
