This week's Mainstream Media Scream features former Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham comparing President Obama to the subject of his new book, "Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power." When asked on the Today show how Jefferson is relevant today, Meacham said, "He was a tall, cool, cerebral president who won re-election, who was actually really good at politics even though he didn't want to act as though he was. So there's some similarities with President Obama."

Media Research Center Vice President of Research Brent Baker explains our pick: "Journalists never tire of likening their hero Barack Obama to 'cool' and 'cerebral' cultural icons. During Meacham's tenure at Newsweek, the magazine asserted: 'Spock's cool, analytical nature feels more fascinating and topical than ever now that we've put a sort of Vulcan in the White House.' At least Meacham kept his adulatory comparison within our solar system."

Rating: Two out of five screams.
