A 35-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for a Fairfax City hit-and-run crash that critically injured a pedestrian.

Leon Andrew D. Oliveira, of Fairfax, was arrested for felony hit and run and was released from custody later in the day, authorities said.

On June 15, Oliveira was driving a Toyota RAV4 on Fairfax Boulevard when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a 33-year-old man, and continued traveling without stopping, Fairfax City police said. The pedestrian suffered head injuries, is using a wheelchair and faces a lengthy recuperation period.

Police released a photo of the striking vehicle and were able to identify the Toyota after receiving tips. Officers were then able to identify the driver.
