A man has been charged with fatally stabbing his wife in District Heights.

Prince George's County police said 38-year-old Felipe Gomez was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the slaying of 37-year-old Maria Delmi Madrid-De Gomez.

She was found suffering stab wounds on the 6500 block of Gateway Boulevard at about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators began searching for Gomez on Tuesday morning and said he was wanted on a second-degree murder charge. He was apprehended later Tuesday in the District.

Police said the investigation into the circumstances of Madrid-De Gomez's death is continuing.
