A 42-year-old man was found dead after a fire in his Bloomingdale area home in the District, officials said.

About 7 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters went to a two-story brick rowhouse located at 1810 First Street NW. The bulk of the fire was on the first floor but it spread to the rest of the building, Battalion Chief Brian Lee said. After the fire was knocked out, a body was found on the rowhouse's first floor.

The victim has been identified as Jeffery Nedoroscik, D.C. police spokesman Officer Araz Alali said.

The cause of Nedoroscik's death and the cause of the fire are under investigation.

"Our prayers are with the family," D.C. Councilman Kenyan McDuffie tweeted.
