A man died after fighting police officers Friday afternoon in D.C.

Department of Mental Health officials phoned police for help with 38-year-old Anthony Chambers, of an unknown address, about 3 p.m. on P Street SW. When police arrived, Chambers became combative and assaulted four police officers. Police said after they subdued and handcuffed Chambers, he went unconscious. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Police are investigating the incident, and officials will do an autopsy on Chambers to determine the cause of death.

The four officers involved in the fight were injured and are now on administrative leave with pay, police said.
