A 44-year-old Lanham man died after the 1997 Toyota Corolla he was driving was struck by two other vehicles in College Park, police said.

The incident took place shortly after 5:15 a.m. Wednesday on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway before to New Hampshire Avenue.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2007 Nissan Sentra struck the rear of the Toyota. The Nissan moved to the right shoulder of the road, and the Toyota stopped in the roadway. A 2005 Sterling truck tractor then struck the Toyota in the rear, causing it to spin around and face the opposite direction, according to Maryland State Police.

The Toyota's driver, Kwame Abban, was taken to a hospital, where he died. The other two drivers were not injured, and there were no passengers in any of the vehicles.

Police do not yet know the cause of the crash; they believe that all of the drivers were wearing seatbelts.
