A 56-year-old Woodbridge man chasing after his dog was killed Friday when he was struck by a car.

Prince William County Police said they believe the man, Erwin Jose Valdez Perez, was crossing Spriggs Road near Lindendale Road in Woodbaridge to catch his dog who had run away slightly after 7 p.m. Friday night. A 19-year-old Woodbridge woman was driving southbound on Spriggs Road when Perez ran into the street.

She struck the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not determined to be a fault and was not charged.

The dog was also struck and killed by an unreleated vehicle going in the opposite lanes on Spriggs Road.

Police said the area where Perez crossed was unlit.
