A man was shot in Southeast D.C. early Sunday morning, police said, in an incident that took place at about 3 a.m. on the 2300 block of Pitts Place SE.

The man was walking when he was approached by three males wearing hoods who demanded money. The victim then started to run, and he heard gunshots and realized that he had been shot in the upper leg, D.C. police spokesman Officer Anthony Clay said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, but Clay said that he did not know his condition Sunday afternoon.
