A man was shot in the hand near a downtown D.C. homeless shelter, police said.

About 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a shooting at Third and D streets Northwest, near the Community for Creative Non-Violence. The man was taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to police and fire officials.

Police are looking for a man who was seen leaving the scene in a white van with paper license plates.
