Eddie Murphy is wanted for violating the terms of his federal probation for bank robbery.

No, not the comedian Eddie Murphy. This is Eddie "Five Knots" Murphy, a federal fugitive wanted out of Maryland for violating the terms of his probation for bank robbery.

The 51-year-old fugitive has a history of arrests ranging from armed bank robbery, assault on police officers and armed robbery in the District, Virginia and North Carolina.

He has been on the run from U.S. Marshals since July and is believed to still be in the area.

Matt Burke, supervisory inspector for the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, is asking the public for information that can help lead to Murphy's arrest.

"I give our Eddie Murphy 4 out of 4 Rotten Tomatoes," Burke said. "We would like the Examiner readers' assistance in bringing this bad actor into custody before he can make a robbery sequel."

Edward Darnell Murphy is listed as 5-feet-7 and 155 pounds. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact the task force at 301-489-1717.

Since 2008, The Examiner's Most Wanted feature has led directly to the capture of surrender of 51 fugitives. Among them were a man wanted in a 1997 cold case slaying, a teenager accused of killing a 16-year-old boy and stuffing his body in a closet, and a key figure in one of the largest federal contracting scams in United States history.

The task force, run by the U.S. Marshals Service, is composed of 30 federal, state and local agencies from Baltimore to Norfolk. The unit has captured more than 33,000 fugitives since its creation in 2004.
