A 3-year-old girl has been seriously injured in a fall from a fourth-floor apartment in Aspen Hill.

It happened shortly after 9 a.m. Monday in the 3800 block of Bel Pre Road.

Montgomery County Police Officer Janelle Smith said the girl or her 5-year-old brother may have opened to the window to look outside at the snow before the girl fell out. Family members were at the apartment at the time of the fall.

The girl was taken immediately to the Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, then transferred to the Children's National Medical Center in Washington. She remains in serious condition.

Detectives are investigating.
