Maryland's Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown plans to kick off his campaign to become Maryland's next governor on Friday with an event at Prince George's Community College.

Brown plans to follow up his announcement with a three-city blitz, hitting Frederick, Silver Spring and Baltimore on Saturday. Gov. Martin O'Malley, a vocal supporter of Brown, is scheduled to appear at the Baltimore event.

Brown is expected to enter a crowded Democratic field, with Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler; Del. Heather R. Mizeur, D-Montgomery County; and Howard County Executive Ken Ulman all said to be eyeing the governor's mansion in 2014. Ulman has been rumored to be Brown's running mate.

A number of Republicans are also expected to vie for O'Malley's seat, including Harford County Executive David R. Craig and Del. Ron George, R-Anne Arundel County.
