The speed limit on the Intercounty Connector will increase from 55 mph to 60 mph this weekend.
Maryland officials are planning to change the road's speed limit signs this weekend, the westbound signs on Friday and the eastbound signs on Saturday, the Maryland Transportation Authority said.
Officials announced last month that they would raise the speed limit after complaints that it was artificially low and after an engineering study proved it was safe to do so. The toll road stretches from Interstate 370 in Montgomery County to Interstate 95 in Prince George's County.
Toll road officials estimate the change will save commuters 1.5 minutes of travel time if they drive the full length of the road.
