A male prison inmate has died at the Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown, and police suspect he was murdered.
State police said a correctional officer found Deavel M. Johnson, 22, bleeding from at least one serious wound on his upper body in the dormitory area of the prison on Tuesday night.
Johnson had been serving a sentence for first-degree burglary since 2011.
Johnson received medical care at the prison and then was pronounced dead at the Meritus Medical Center shortly after 11:30 p.m.
The Maryland State Police are investigating the incident and await the medical examiner's ruling after an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of Johnson's death.
