Howard County police are searching for a man who invaded a Jessup home where five members of a family were present.

About 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, a woman called police and told them that an armed man had entered her home in the 7300 block of Montevideo Road in Jessup. The woman, two other adults and two teenage children had locked themselves in an upstairs bedroom, police said.

Within 10 minutes of the woman calling, police entered the home. Officers found signs of forced entry at the home's back door, but the invader had fled. The family was found in the bedroom unharmed.

Detectives have determined that the intruder fired two shots inside the home, but it is unclear if the shots were fired at anyone, police said. Authorities believe that the home may have been targeted and that the public is not in danger.

The invader was described as a black man, 25 to 30 years old, over 6 feet tall and 160 to 170 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket and a white-colored plaid shirt, and he was carrying a handgun.

Anyone with information can call police at 410-313-STOP.
