BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland highway officials say they are offering holiday motorists new ways to keep ahead of traffic jams this year.

The State Highway Administration says motorists can now receive text and email alerts from its 511 travel information system. Motorists can also call 511 or visit the md511.org website, where they can also register for the text and email alerts. State highway officials say that can help drivers learn about major incidents, delays and estimated travel times before they get behind the wheel.

And the agency says it is also suspending all non-emergency roadwork on SHA roadways from Wednesday morning to Monday morning next week to help ease holiday travel congestion.
