ANNAPOLIS -- A bill heard by a Maryland House panel Tuesday would allow military veterans to pay in-state tuition at University System of Maryland colleges.

The measure would waive Maryland's requirements that in order to pay in-state tuition, students must prove they have lived in the state for three months or one year (depending on the school) or that the student had graduated high school in the state within the last four years.

Members of the House Appropriations Committee were supportive of the measure.

"I view it as a duty that we have in Maryland," said Del. Mary Washington, D-Baltimore.
