Meriam Ibrahim was barely out of prison for a day when she, her husband and their children were stopped at an airport in Khartoum as they were trying to leave Sudan, according to the family's lawyers.

About 50 security officers arrested Ibrahim during an angry confrontation, according to Elshareef Ali Mohammed, a lawyer for the family.

“I have no more information," Mohammed told NBC News. “They knew she had been cleared by the court but they have rearrested her – I don't know why.”

The family was then detained and interrogated at Sudan’s national security headquarters in Khartoum.

It is currently unknown why the family was stopped.

Ibrahim’s husband, Daniel Wani, told CNN that the family was not allowed to leave the national security office.

The family was trying to travel to the U.S. following Ibrahim's release from prison on Monday. She was originally sentenced to hang for apostasy - the crime of leaving Islam.
