Metro cancels bus service ahead of winter storm

WASHINGTON (AP) — Metro has suspended all Metrobus and MetroAccess service for Monday morning due to hazardous weather conditions expected in the Washington area.

The transit agency announced Sunday that no buses will operate during the Monday morning commute. There will also be no MetroAccess service for disabled riders. The announcement came before government or school closings were announced.

On Sunday, buses are expected to continue running until their last scheduled trips.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Washington area from midnight through 6 p.m. Monday. The National Weather Service is predicting 6 to 10 inches of snow is possible. Forecasters say rain will change to freezing rain and sleet overnight. Then heavy snow will fall through Monday.

Metro says bus service will only be restored Monday when it's safe.
